Champagne Gene Info/Pics
We were delighted when we recently discovered one of our best broodmares, Sugar, carries the rare champagne gene.  Although she is registered with AQHA as a dun, (and we had previously considered her a "claybank dun"), we now know she's actually an Amber Champagne, which is a bay base coat color plus the champagne dilution gene.

Sugar has amber colored eyes, pinkish-gray mottled skin, chocolate brown rather than true black points, and a beautiful metallic glimmer to her coat.  She is extremely eye-catching!
Sugar's 2002 filly, Charlotte, also carries these champagne traits, being born with bright blue eyes which have now turned a striking green color, pink skin with some freckles now appearing, and a coat color that has lightened rather than darkened as ordinary foal coats often do.  She is a Gold Champagne, and is turning a rich golden palomino color.

Sugar's 2003 filly, Booger, and her 1998 colt, Sunny, are also Amber Champagnes, and will mature to a golden buckskin-type color with dark brown points, like their dam.
